Senior Software Engineer

Advantest Test Solutions (ATS) builds high-performance, cross-platform software platforms that power semiconductor test systems. This onsite role in Lake Forest, CA focuses on platform ownership and customer-facing technical execution across SLT, Burn-In, and HPC environments, with opportunities to modernize legacy components, engineer distributed pipelines, and deliver production-quality software.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance software platforms and products for on-premises and hybrid deployments
• Lead modernization of legacy software components into scalable, production-ready architecture
• Build cross-platform server and terminal applications for Windows, Linux, and macOS, including development using OneImlx.Terminal
• Apply expertise in test program development using the ActivATE® test platform system for SLT, BI, and HPC
• Lead software design and implementation in collaboration with Electrical, Mechanical, and Thermal engineering, including creation of an ActivATE360® SDK environment for device and instrumentation drivers
• Develop software, drivers, and test programs for advanced silicon across SLT (System Level Test), Burn-In, and HPC
• Engineer software for control, communication, and data flow across mechatronic and semiconductor test subsystems
• Design and implement SCAN execution and vector conversion pipelines across multiple digital pin-card configurations, ensuring correctness, scalability, and performance
• Engineer distributed systems to support high-throughput telemetry, messaging, and data pipelines
• Work extensively with networking and communication protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, and gRPC
• Actively code, design, document, review, and support production-quality software
• Serve as a technical interface with customers and internal cross-functional teams
• Support on-site deployments and travel 10–20%, including occasional domestic and international trips
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field (M.S. preferred)
• 7+ years software development experience, including 5+ years with C# and .NET
• Strong expertise in the .NET ecosystem and cross-platform development
• Proficiency in C#, C++, Python, SQL, and NoSQL
• Experience with Apache Pulsar, Microsoft Azure, and distributed messaging systems
• Strong background in multithreading, asynchronous programming, and high-performance systems
• Hands-on experience building and deploying on-premises and hybrid software platforms
• Demonstrated ability in large-scale data flows, telemetry throughput optimization, and system-level design
• Strong technical design, documentation, and communication skills
• Must be willing to work onsite in Lake Forest, CA

Preferred / plus qualifications

• Prior experience with semiconductor test systems and testers
• Experience developing or working with semiconductor test IDEs
• Familiarity with ActivATE™ and/or Advantest 93000 SOC platform (SmarTest)
• Experience with digital test, SCAN, pattern execution, and vector-based test flows
• Experience with modern test frameworks and practices such as xUnit, FluentAssertions, TDD, and Playwright
