Senior Software Engineer - Optimization, Remix

Via is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Remix engineering team and help build and scale end-to-end features for public transportation planning and scheduling. In this role, you will focus on optimization and backend systems, collaborating with design, data science, product, and transit planning to deliver fast, reliable, user-centered experiences for planners and riders.

Responsibilities

• Enhance planning and scheduling products so planners can explore new concepts, make data-informed decisions, and improve service for riders.
• Build, scale, and improve the optimization and backend systems powering those products, with a focus on speed and reliability in production.
• Partner with designers, data scientists, algorithm researchers, product managers, in-house transit planners and schedulers, and customers.
• Work across multiple technologies in the stack to deliver strong end-to-end user experiences.
• Participate in engineering best-practices and architecture discussions within your area of expertise.
• Build and maintain processes and tools that support high productivity and code quality.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building and scaling a computationally hard system in production, such as optimization, routing, search, simulation, or geospatial processing.
• Mission-driven mindset with interest in companies that prioritize values and mission.
• User-centric approach, including talking to customers and addressing core customer needs.
• Ability to use AI tools effectively in day-to-day engineering work.
• Collaborative style: humble, empathetic, and driven by feedback.
• Optional: experience with operations research, mathematical optimization, or applied machine learning.
• Optional: experience with geospatial data, mapping technologies, or data visualization.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $180,000-$220,000 per year
• Final salary is based on the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills. Salary listed does not include equity or variable pay, where applicable.
