Overview

We are seeking a skilled Senior Traffic Engineer (Senior PE) to join McClure and contribute to our growing Transportation team. This position serves as the primary point for a range of high visibility and critical projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical/design leadership and a proven ability to mentor less experienced teammates. The Senior Traffic Engineer will organize and lead the development and production of deliverables that meet McClure’s high standards, while also helping to elevate the technical and design capabilities of the team. This role is viewed as a technical thought leader among colleagues both within and outside the firm, with a focus on innovation and process improvement.

General Responsibilities

  • 60 percent of duties involve Team Support
    • Participate in monthly leadership meetings to review team progress, discuss concerns, and identify successes.
    • Maintain regular communication with leadership as needed based on project or team needs.
    • Support Team Leaders and Project Managers by coordinating with Project Managers and Engineers, and by participating in project specific design review and milestone meetings.
    • Lead the project delivery team by delegating technical and design tasks and coaching team members.
    • Direct QA/QC processes for projects and advise on necessary team-wide changes.
    • Perform QA/QC on reports, plans and specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and guidelines.
    • Collaborate with Project Managers to identify project milestones and dependencies.
    • Independently lead design team schedules, budgets, and staffing while coordinating with the Project Manager.
    • Implement team specific project delivery processes, such as work breakdown structures.
    • Coordinate with outside disciplines.
    • Work with Project Managers to document, review and implement lessons learned.
    • Assess skills of technical team members and help address weaknesses.
    • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to team members.
  • 10 percent Industry Innovation and Thought Leadership
    • Research and review feasibility of industry developments and advancements.
    • Help lead the industry by speaking publicly on behalf of McClure about projects, initiatives or innovations.
    • Organize internal and external training opportunities for the team.
    • Collaborate with other engineers and professionals on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • 20 percent Client Support
    • Participate in client meetings such as project kick off, design review, construction progress or project specific technical meetings as required.
    • Proactively communicate complex issues and solutions.
    • Build a relationship of trust with all clients.
  • 10 percent Other Duties as Assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with all team members.
  • Strong understanding of transportation engineering, construction techniques, and industry standards/best practices.
  • Ability to manage a fair workload by prioritizing effectively.
  • Solid knowledge of professional liability, quality procedures, and other engineering/technical skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from diverse groups.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering.
  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing junior team members.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is a plus.
