Job Description

McClure is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead transportation projects onsite at its Ankeny, Iowa office. The role emphasizes strong technical and design leadership, mentoring team members, and coordinating with project managers to deliver innovative solutions and high-quality deliverables for clients.

Responsibilities

  • Attend monthly leadership meetings to review progress, raise concerns, and identify successes.
  • Maintain regular communication with leadership as project and team needs arise.
  • Coordinate frequently with Project Managers and Engineers.
  • Participate in project-specific design review and milestone meetings.
  • Lead the project delivery team by assigning technical and design tasks and coaching team members.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes for projects and recommend organization-wide improvements.
  • Perform QA/QC on reports, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Work with Project Managers to identify milestones and dependencies.
  • Independently manage design team schedules, budgets, and staffing while coordinating with the Project Manager.
  • Implement team specific project delivery processes such as work breakdown structures.
  • Coordinate with outside disciplines.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to document, review, and implement lessons learned.
  • Assess skills of technical team members and assist in addressing weaknesses.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to team members.
  • Research and evaluate feasibility of new industry developments and advancements.
  • Represent McClure in public discussions about projects, initiatives or innovations.
  • Organize internal and external training opportunities for the team.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and professionals on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Participate in client meetings such as project kickoffs, design reviews, construction progress, or project-specific technical meetings as required.
  • Proactively communicate complex issues and solutions.
  • Build a relationship of trust with all clients.

Requirements

  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor with all team members.
  • Strong understanding of transportation engineering, construction techniques, and industry standards.
  • Ability to balance workload by prioritizing tasks.
  • Solid knowledge of professional liability, quality procedures, and related engineering skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from diverse groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities, with the capacity to explain complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of engineering experience.
  • Proven mentoring and development experience with junior team members.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is a plus.
  • Competence with general computer tools including Excel, Word, and PDF.
