SOFTWARE ENGINEER

A Software Engineer is needed to support modernization initiatives by migrating legacy Mainframe systems to a Java-based technology stack. This onsite role in Reston, VA involves analysis, design, development, testing, and debugging of mission-critical enrollment systems that operate across COBOL and Java environments.

Responsibilities

• Support modernization efforts by migrating legacy Mainframe systems to newer Java stack technologies.
• Perform complex analysis of enrollment systems to inform design and implementation.
• Design software solutions for enrollment processing and related workflows.
• Develop enrollment systems using COBOL and Java environments.
• Test enrollment systems to validate functionality and reliability.
• Debug enrollment systems to resolve defects in a mission-critical context.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of software development experience, including architecture, design, coding, and testing.
• Strong COBOL expertise in Mainframe environments, including CICS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, ChangeMan, and Topaz.
• Java development experience with unit and integration testing using JUnit or TestNG.
• Hands-on experience with Spring technologies such as Spring Core, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Integration.
• Experience developing RESTful or SOA-based web services.
• Extensive exposure to Agile or Scrum software development methodologies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; in lieu of degree, four additional years of relevant experience accepted.
