Software Engineer

Aquila Technology builds full-stack, data-intensive solutions that support advanced bioanalytics and AI-driven initiatives. In this onsite role in Lexington, MA, you will help develop and maintain scalable applications, including bioinformatics tools that work with complex biological datasets. You will also contribute to secure, reliable software and participate in technical decision-making that considers downstream impact.

Required skills and experience

• 5+ years of full-stack software development experience
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline (or bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience)
• Excellent problem solving and strong team collaboration
• Strong verbal and written communication
• 5 years of schema definitions and data modeling for SQL databases
• 5 years of AWS development experience: S3, IAM, RDS, EC2, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, ECR, EKS
• 5 years of software documentation experience
• 5 years of JavaScript/React
• 5 years proficiency in modern Python (e.g., Flask, SQLAlchemy, boto3)
• 5 years designing and developing cloud-based distributed systems with microservices
• 5 years version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab)
• Proven ability to identify strategic implications of technical decisions and proactively advise on downstream impacts
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in small to medium sized teams

Clearance

Interim clearance is sufficient to start with. An active clearance is highly preferred.

Onsite location and schedule

This position is 100% onsite due to the nature of the work. Candidates must live within 100 miles of Lexington, MA. Expect to be onsite at least 4 days a week for the first year. After that, a hybrid schedule may be discussed, with the final schedule determined by the hiring manager.

• 2nd round: onsite preferred if local; if not local, a Zoom interview

Nice to have

• SQL database performance tuning and query optimization
• Background in bioinformatics, genomics, or related life sciences data
• Experience defining, debugging, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT pipelines and processes
• Experience defining and managing workflows in k8s-based orchestration engines (i.e., Kubeflow)
