Software Engineer II- Linux C/C++ systems programming

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Corporate Sector within the Employee Platforms team. In this role, you will build and improve Linux system-level software components in C/C++ that support demanding, production environments focused on performance and resilience.

This onsite position is based in Jersey City, NJ, and the target compensation range is USD 123,500 - 150,000 per year. You will bring 2+ years of applied software engineering experience to help deliver reliable outcomes through disciplined development practices across the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Linux system software using C/C++, emphasizing performance, stability, and recoverability in a critical runtime environment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across the stack using advanced debugging and profiling, with a focus on root-cause analysis, regression prevention, and measurable performance gains.
• Contribute to WebKit-based GUI capabilities as needed, supporting responsive rendering, robust event handling, and clean integration with system services.
• Integrate and troubleshoot device connectivity for common computer peripherals and I/O interfaces, translating device behavior into reliable software operation and clear operational diagnostics.
• Apply Agile SDLC practices including iterative delivery, code review, automated testing, and continuous integration aligned to team standards.
• Maintain strong tooling and automation habits to improve code quality and delivery speed while keeping solutions maintainable, testable, and production-ready.
• Collaborate with engineering, QA, product, and adjacent platform teams to align requirements, surface risks early, and deliver predictable outcomes.
• Use knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle toolchain capabilities, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation, to increase value from automation.

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts plus 2+ years of applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience across system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
• Working knowledge of C/C++ on Linux.
• Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools in the work environment for tasks such as coding, testing, troubleshooting, or documentation, with the ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs.
• Understanding of responsible AI use, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
• Experience across the whole Software Development Life Cycle.
• Exposure to agile practices such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
