Software Engineer, Lead Associate
Job Description
The Lead Software Engineer position at KBR's National Security Solutions focuses on guiding junior and mid-level engineers while delivering proofs of concept for critical capabilities. This onsite role is based in the Lanham/Landover area, MD, with up to 50 percent travel and an initial Secret clearance required.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and lead junior and mid-level engineers to develop proofs of concept for unique capabilities.
- Conduct peer testing and code reviews to ensure quality and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and debug software issues across the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to architecture decisions at multiple levels of the system.
- Maintain essential system technical documentation for reference and compliance.
- Familiarize the team with new tools and industry best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and advance software development practices, including unit testing, Agile Scrum, and DevSecOps.
- Collaborate with the team to author technical reports and demonstrate capabilities to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or another technical field with five years of experience; or a Master’s degree with no years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with three years of experience.
- Active Security Clearance: Secret to start, with ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
- Active Security+ certification or equivalent, or ability to obtain one within six months from start date.
- Strong knowledge of C, C++, Java, or other cross-platform C-style programming languages.
- Experience developing software for and configuring Linux and Unix systems.
- Demonstrated experience in writing, testing, and debugging software.
- Ability to develop and document system-level design options, including integration with COTS and GOTS software and hardware.
- Experience with version control, issue tracking, and documentation tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Adaptability and initiative to perform a wide range of tasks to support program success.

Work Environment

- Travel Requirements: Up to 50 percent, CONUS and OCONUS

Desired Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI clearance

Basic Compensation
Salary range: $101,500 - $152,200 per year (Maryland only)
Additional Compensation
- KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to eligible roles per internal policy or contractual designation
