Job Description

The Lead Software Engineer position at KBR's National Security Solutions focuses on guiding junior and mid-level engineers while delivering proofs of concept for critical capabilities. This onsite role is based in the Lanham/Landover area, MD, with up to 50 percent travel and an initial Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and lead junior and mid-level engineers to develop proofs of concept for unique capabilities.
  • Conduct peer testing and code reviews to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and debug software issues across the development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions at multiple levels of the system.
  • Maintain essential system technical documentation for reference and compliance.
  • Familiarize the team with new tools and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and advance software development practices, including unit testing, Agile Scrum, and DevSecOps.
  • Collaborate with the team to author technical reports and demonstrate capabilities to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or another technical field with five years of experience; or a Master’s degree with no years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with three years of experience.
  • Active Security Clearance: Secret to start, with ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
  • Active Security+ certification or equivalent, or ability to obtain one within six months from start date.
  • Strong knowledge of C, C++, Java, or other cross-platform C-style programming languages.
  • Experience developing software for and configuring Linux and Unix systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, testing, and debugging software.
  • Ability to develop and document system-level design options, including integration with COTS and GOTS software and hardware.
  • Experience with version control, issue tracking, and documentation tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Adaptability and initiative to perform a wide range of tasks to support program success.

Work Environment

  • Location: On-Site at 8300 Professional Place, Landover, MD
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 50 percent, CONUS and OCONUS
  • Working Hours: Availability to work outside of standard business hours

Desired Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Basic Compensation

Salary range: $101,500 - $152,200 per year (Maryland only)

Additional Compensation

  • KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to eligible roles per internal policy or contractual designation
  • Additional compensation may include sign-on bonuses, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance
