Software Engineer - Level 2

BAE Systems Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer - Level 2 to support automation of complex workflows and help streamline the software delivery lifecycle through CI/CD. Based in Annapolis Junction, MD, this onsite role centers on scalable system architecture, data engineering focus, QA oversight, and automated DevOps environments.

Role focus

In this position, you will translate mission requirements into software designs and technical roadmaps, with an emphasis on scalability and performance in high-stakes contexts. You will also contribute to robust testing practices and the construction of automated CI/CD environments to improve delivery efficiency and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex mission requirements into scalable software designs and technical roadmaps.
• Apply expertise in handling massive datasets and optimizing performance for high-stakes environments.
• Lead the creation of global test plans and oversee the execution of rigorous QA procedures.
• Use advanced skills managing automated CI/CD environments with Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, and Bamboo.

Requirements

• Minimum 14 years of experience in high-complexity software contracts and programs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent professional experience may be considered).
• Mastery of Python, C, or C++, with experience in multi-platform (Windows/UNIX) architecture.
• Demonstrated experience leading software teams and mentoring junior developers.

Compensation

Full-Time Salary Range: $149,603 - $254,317 per year. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
