Job Description

Weidmann Electrical Technology Inc (Wicor) is hiring a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to strengthen manufacturing performance through process, equipment, and factory layout development. This onsite role in Saint Johnsbury, VT focuses on safer operations, effective production, and hands-on delivery of capital and expense initiatives across the facility.

What you will do

  • Support the success of the business through active involvement in and support of QST Process, EMS, and QMS principles.
  • Drive continuous process improvement by developing and maintaining appropriate manufacturing technologies.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement efficient shutdowns to minimize planned and unplanned downtime.
  • Create or close work orders for production equipment and facility repairs or upgrades.
  • Enter purchase requests for services and products that support production equipment and facility repairs or upgrades.
  • Develop, manage, and execute Capital & Expense projects to upgrade, maintain, or replace production equipment.
  • Evaluate equipment condition and recommend rebuild or replacement, including recommendations for spare parts to reduce the cost of unscheduled downtime.
  • Build equipment needs and project estimates to support yearly budget planning.
  • Manage contractors, including required paperwork, compliance with the current WEIDMANN contractor safety briefing package, and daily sign in/out at designated locations.
  • Ensure employee safety by evaluating processes and equipment and taking prompt action when unsafe situations occur.
  • Plan and implement production processes by studying customer requirements and incorporating appropriate technology.
  • Determine project feasibility by forecasting costs and requirements.
  • Lead new process and equipment implementation projects using team and project management tools and techniques.
  • Design, develop, plan, purchase, and maintain facilities, processes, production equipment, and tooling to meet business needs.
  • Provide input for continual improvement projects, preventive and corrective actions, and related problem resolution for products, documentation, procedures, or materials.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops and review of professional publications.
  • Have the responsibility to halt or change a process when it is not achieving planned results.
  • Provide technical information, product know-how, and training to Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Customer Service/Sales, other Weidmann sites, and local management.
  • Serve as a liaison between Production and Customer Service/Sales when technical questions arise or product specifications are unclear.
  • Support establishing new customer production requirements and assist with new customer product contract review.
  • Maintain engineering information by keeping files available to support day-to-day needs.
  • Assure adherence to federal, state, and local legal requirements for manufacturing operations, and perform assigned duties in line with customer and business requirements.
  • Participate in team-based improvement activities and work independently or with other professionals.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering and 10 years of experience, or a related technical degree and 15 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in Autocad.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments.
  • Proficiency in LOTUS, WORD, and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of SAP.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience solving problems.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Knowledge of Lean 6 Sigma, Kaizen, and 5S.

Compensation and benefits

  • Starting Rate: USD 124,000 per year
