Sr. Product Design Engineer, Data Center Engineering, Electrical Products and Services

This role is a Senior Product Design Engineer within AWS Electrical Products and Services at Amazon Data Services, Inc. The position focuses on the design and development of power distribution equipment and UPS systems for data centers. It leads the product design from concept through implementation and collaborates with internal teams and external partners. This onsite position is based in Herndon, Virginia, with travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Support the Data Center Design Engineering, Principal Engineering, and Hardware Engineering teams to transform innovative concepts into new data center power distribution products.
• Lead new product design and development, coordinating with internal stakeholders to define requirements and gather customer input.
• Collaborate with mechanical, structural, reliability, QA/QC, and compliance disciplines to deliver well-integrated products.
• Create designs that meet or exceed quality standards while achieving a solid return on investment.
• Coordinate with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify electrical equipment, devices, and bill of materials.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local building codes across regions and countries.
• Prepare, review, and approve product designs and drawings, including electrical BOMs, configurations, layouts, assemblies, and wiring diagrams.
• Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests before and during manufacturing.
• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to establish test processes and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
• Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
• Provide leadership within the group and with internal and external teams supporting data center initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in electrical product design for power distribution equipment or UPS, or 8+ years in data center or mission-critical design, construction, or operations
• Professional Engineering or Architectural License
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the region
• Experience bringing design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
