Sr. R&D Software Engineer
Job Description
Sr. R&D Software Engineer role for ROS-based robotics software development on Linux, with technical leadership, process improvement, and hands-on verification.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to ROS-based C++ and Python codebases running on Linux.
- Develop software architectures and designs; lead and participate in design and code reviews.
- Engage with the team’s SDLC processes while driving delivery for R&D software.
- Own key development efforts and serve as a stakeholder in review approvals.
- Mentor and guide junior team members through peer programming.
- Participate in scoping, planning, and scheduling work within an Agile workflow.
- Help establish and drive best practices and SOPs for software development.
- Create test plans and perform hands-on testing and verification on live robots and hardware.
- Follow safety standards when working with live equipment.
- Support field trials and customer on-site Beta deployments for new product releases.
- Coordinate with other Toyota Automated Logistics business units throughout the R&D release process (for example: Manufacturing, Commissioning, Development, etc.).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
- Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience designing and implementing production software systems.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment with a strong drive toward SOPs.
- Expert-level Linux experience and development for Linux systems.
- Expertise in C/C++ and Python; experience with other software technologies such as web development and SQL (as applicable).
- Experience with CI/CD and testing methodologies, including implementation.
- Experience with containerization and deployment strategies.
- Experience with version control systems (with Git preferred).
- Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System).
- Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.
- Follow information security policies, protect confidential data, complete required training, and report suspected security incidents per information security controls.
