Job Description

The Sr. Structural Engineer will be on site with NVR's Architectural Services in Frederick, MD, contributing to the development of residential construction and engineering documents as part of an integrated project team. The position offers a salary range of USD 105,000 to 125,000 per year and emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to ensure design integrity and timely delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review engineering documentation to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations, including load development plans, gravity load design, and lateral load design. Assess residential designs for structural code conformity and seal or approve documents as required, with an active PE or SE license.
  • Maintain your assigned portion of the project schedule and accurately record hours worked on each project.
  • Collaborate with Architectural Project Coordinators to uphold project timelines and coordinate with team members to support project completion and minimize idle time.
  • Provide high level guidance on guidelines, standards, and best practices within the project scope.
  • Independently apply engineering concepts and designs to ensure project functions are accurate with minimal need for revisions to the structure, design, or established procedures.
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions, offer recommendations, and develop solutions with Homebuilding, Manufacturing, Procurement, and other NVR departments as needed. This may include addressing field repairs or clarifying construction methods with inspectors.
  • Consult with experts in structural and mechanical engineering, architecture, estimating, building code enforcement, truss engineering, and IT to ensure documents are complete and accurate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) license in at least one state.
  • Experience with structural design software such as iStruct, Digital Canal, and Tekla Tedds.
  • Design experience in residential homebuilding and light wood-framed construction.
  • 6+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years as a PE.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets and databases as well as MS Office.
  • 1+ years of AutoCAD experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Well-developed problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Effective collaboration within a team environment and strong communication skills.
  • Experience planning and organizing the activities of others, with demonstrated follow-up and task management skills.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and/or coaching junior team members is preferred.
