Staff Embedded Software Engineer - Avionics - Aerospace - FLRAA
Job Description
Work on Platform Software Engineering avionics embedded software by guiding teams through design assurance and real-time development.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and/or develop a module, component, feature set, feature area, or entire embedded software product
- Apply expertise across areas such as networks, operating systems, cybersecurity, databases, or applications
- Develop specialized knowledge in embedded software discipline
- Act as a best-practice and quality resource for teams
- Contribute to strategy and policy development while ensuring delivery within area of responsibility
- Use in-depth knowledge of best practices and how the embedded software area integrates with other systems
- Use judgment to solve moderately complex technical tasks tied to operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering
- Bring new perspective to existing solutions and improve approaches using technical experience
- Perform data analysis to support recommendations
- Use multiple internal and limited external sources to arrive at decisions
- Serve as a resource for colleagues with less experience
- May lead small projects with moderate risk and resource requirements
- Explain difficult or sensitive information and work to build consensus
- Use persuasion skills to influence others on topics within the field
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- U.S. citizenship status required
- 10+ years of embedded software development experience
- 5+ years of experience on DO-178C Software Level A-C programs
- Proficiency with the CAMEO Enterprise Architect Tool
- Proficiency with Model Based Design (MBD) for software architecture, requirements, design, and Test of real-time systems
- Hybrid location in Grand Rapids, MI (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office)

Desired Characteristics
- Experience with ARINC 653 compliant operating systems
- Familiarity with MISRA C coding standards
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to influence product leadership and technology strategy
- Familiarity with computing platforms, network products, real-time operating systems, and multi-core processor architectures
- Ability to meet cost and schedule targets and interface effectively with multiple disciplines (Hardware/Software/Systems and Test Systems Engineering)
Compensation
- Base pay range: $130,000 - $173,000 USD annually
- Specific pay may vary based on experience, education, and skill set
