Job Description

FindTalent is hiring a Substation Design Engineer for onsite work in Billings, MT. In this role, you will help shape conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design for new, upgraded, and expanded substations, with support through construction and commissioning/energization. The position emphasizes coordinated, high-quality engineering deliverables across multiple disciplines and studies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver physical, electrical, civil, and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits, and specifications
  • Assist in executing best-in-class projects by supporting coordination, quality control, and oversight of designers, drafters, and support staff
  • Coordinate specialized tasks with subject matter expert groups, including:
    • Distribution Studies
    • Transmission Studies
    • Grounding Studies
    • Protection, including relay coordination and settings
    • Civil Engineering
    • Communication with SCADA Integration
    • Transmission & Distribution Engineering
  • Provide support for material procurement, construction, and commissioning/startup processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience in substation design or a related field is recommended
  • Experience in design engineering is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Commitment to quality, accuracy, and meeting project schedules
  • Progress towards PE licensure is encouraged
  • Fundamental knowledge of power engineering principles and applicable codes and standards
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and meet auto insurance requirements for driving
  • Must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future
