Substation Engineer 4

The Substation Engineer 4 role at Pedernales Electric Cooperative focuses on the design and construction of complex electrical power systems and the analysis of protection schemes to support strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and assess design data and test results
• Utilize CAE tools and design software to perform engineering tasks and analyses
• Draft technical specifications and evaluate data to define limits and variables for products, processes, or materials
• Review and prepare technical drawings, test reports, and substation design specifications to meet standards and customer requirements
• Collaborate with engineers, customers and other stakeholders on current or prospective projects
• Lead and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, documentation, and project management activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and customer requirements
• Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products and systems for commercial, industrial, and residential applications
• Develop specifications for purchasing materials and equipment
• Perform detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction and installation standards and specifications
• Investigate customer or public complaints, determine root cause, and recommend corrective actions
• Supervise project production to ensure timely, on-budget delivery
• Manage design and construction of large substation projects with minimal supervision
• Represent the cooperative in regulatory compliance efforts as a subject matter expert
• Conduct standard engineering computations and analyses
• Prepare engineering drawings, maps, and construction specifications
• Research material specifications and resolve basic material issues
• Perform construction inspections
• Coordinate with consultants, members, developers and government entities on all projects
• Provide guidance to engineers and staff across departments
• Write conceptual design documents for substation projects as assigned
• Apply sound engineering judgement when evaluating changes to project scope
• Assist with ordering major equipment and review approval drawings for long lead time material
• Serve as department and project lead
• Perform fault studies and configure relays for transformers, feeders and transmission lines
• Complete assigned tasks
• Maintain the security of confidential information
• Stay current with advances in technology
• Maintain regular and prompt attendance
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field
• Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas
• Minimum of eight years of related work experience
• Valid driver's license

Compensation

• Annual salary: USD 115,473 to 144,342 USD

Work Location and Schedule

• Location: Cedar Park, TX 78613
• Hybrid work options available; reporting to either the Johnson City Headquarters or the Cedar Park facility depending on home location
• Travel between locations may be required periodically

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the design and construction of complex electrical power systems and the analysis of the cooperative’s protection systems in support of the cooperative’s strategic initiatives.

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced staff; may act as lead or first-level supervisor when the manager is out of the office

• Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
