Responsibilities
- Lead design efforts and QA/QC checks for technical activities, including development and revision of one-lines, physical layouts, grounding, schematics and wiring, control and relaying panels, and coordination with CAD operators to produce high-quality CAD drawings
- Integrate protection and control drawings with the physical layout and overall substation design
- Design interfaces with SCADA systems and communications, including RTUs, HMIs, and IEDs
- Develop control and relay panel layouts and assemble the associated specifications
- Establish project criteria and contribute to design specifications and the overall bill of materials
- Design and size auxiliary systems such as AC/DC load centers, batteries, and chargers
- Design and size conduit, cable, and backup generators; manage long-lead item material orders
- Perform Point to Point checks and ensure documentation accuracy
- Review junior engineers’ designs to ensure alignment with client standards, identify gaps, and address protection-related issues
- Document QA/QC reviews, maintain records, and communicate findings to the team
- Travel to other offices and meet with clients; participate in project-specific meetings regularly
- Manage tasks across multiple projects while upholding GAI’s project management standards
- Develop scope of services and cost estimates for Substation and Protection & Control projects
- Balance competing priorities with sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions
- Adapt to shifting deadlines and scope changes, mitigating barriers without schedule impact
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects concurrently and perform effectively under deadlines and unforeseen developments
- Be prepared to work extended hours or after hours when required
Requirements
- 6+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License
