Job Description
Based in Kendallville, IN, this onsite Tekla Design Engineer role focuses on converting structural requirements into fabrication-ready Tekla models and shop drawings with an emphasis on speed, accuracy, and shop-floor viability.
Responsibilities
- Convert structural requirements into accurate, fabrication-ready Tekla models and shop drawings, balancing speed with precision to deliver reliable outputs.
- Apply deep knowledge of structural steel connections and industry standards to ensure designs are buildable, efficient, and code-compliant.
- Adopt a shop-first approach by collaborating with shop leads to produce prints that are clear, intuitive, and minimize assembly time.
- Proactively identify clashes or fabrication issues in the model early, communicating findings and proposing practical solutions to prevent delays.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager to keep the engineering pipeline ahead of a two-shift production schedule and ensure smooth handoffs.
Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Tekla Structures, capable of navigating complex models, generating clean drawings, and managing bill-of-materials with minimal supervision.
- Solid background in structural steel detailing, with understanding of how beams, columns, plates, and connections come together.
- Demonstrated speed and efficiency, using shortcuts and organized workflows to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Ownership mindset: self-directed, proactive, and able to act on upcoming tasks based on schedule and priorities.
- Strong communication with the shop floor, able to explain design rationale and respond to fabricator questions effectively.
