Tier 2 / Technical Support Engineer

Shield Logic MSSP is seeking a Tier 2 / Technical Support Engineer to join a hands-on, consulting MSP in San Diego. This onsite role focuses on Windows and macOS support, networking, and security for managed service clients, with collaboration across a team of senior engineers. The position offers a competitive hourly rate of USD 50 - 55 per hour and opportunities to grow practical skills in a real-world, client-facing environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022)
• Oversee Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
• Deploy and maintain virtualization platforms (VMware or Hyper-V)
• Deploy and maintain backup systems
• Implement and monitor endpoint protection, patch management, and network security tools
• Configure and manage firewalls (FortiGate, SonicWall, or similar)
• Troubleshoot system, network, and connectivity issues remotely or onsite
• Create, manage, and resolve helpdesk tickets; respond to escalations
• Address project tasks and monitoring alerts
• Collaborate with senior engineers and management to improve service delivery

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as a System or Network Engineer in an MSP or IT services environment
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 administration
• Familiarity with ConnectWise, Autotask, or other RMM/PSA tools
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall configuration
• Experience with backup solutions (Acronis, Datto, Veeam, or similar)
• Excellent communication, documentation, and client-facing skills
• Onsite availability in San Diego, CA

Experience and Skills

• VMware: 4 years required
• Microsoft Windows Server: 4 years required
• Cisco or Fortinet switches & firewall experience: 4 years preferred
• Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file server: 4 years preferred
