Tier 2 / Technical Support Engineer
Job Description
Shield Logic MSSP is seeking a Tier 2 / Technical Support Engineer to join a hands-on, consulting MSP in San Diego. This onsite role focuses on Windows and macOS support, networking, and security for managed service clients, with collaboration across a team of senior engineers. The position offers a competitive hourly rate of USD 50 - 55 per hour and opportunities to grow practical skills in a real-world, client-facing environment.

Responsibilities
- Manage and support Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022)
- Oversee Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Deploy and maintain virtualization platforms (VMware or Hyper-V)
- Deploy and maintain backup systems
- Implement and monitor endpoint protection, patch management, and network security tools
- Configure and manage firewalls (FortiGate, SonicWall, or similar)
- Troubleshoot system, network, and connectivity issues remotely or onsite
- Create, manage, and resolve helpdesk tickets; respond to escalations
- Address project tasks and monitoring alerts
- Collaborate with senior engineers and management to improve service delivery
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a System or Network Engineer in an MSP or IT services environment
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 administration
- Familiarity with ConnectWise, Autotask, or other RMM/PSA tools
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall configuration
- Experience with backup solutions (Acronis, Datto, Veeam, or similar)
- Excellent communication, documentation, and client-facing skills
- Onsite availability in San Diego, CA
Experience and Skills
- VMware: 4 years required
- Microsoft Windows Server: 4 years required
- Cisco or Fortinet switches & firewall experience: 4 years preferred
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file server: 4 years preferred
