Job Description

What we offer

GSG Consultants, Inc. provides an on‑site role in Downers Grove, Illinois with a competitive salary range of USD 115,000 to 120,000 per year. You will serve as the Electrical Engineer lead for facilities on the Illinois Tollway GEC, guiding electrical design, standards, and inspection efforts within a collaborative, safety‑driven environment. Responsibilities

Act as the Electrical Engineering Subject Matter Expert for the Illinois Tollway GEC, reviewing proposed construction, rehabilitation, and improvement packages for electrical compliance, constructability, safety, and quality.
Evaluate Tollway electrical standards, specifications, and practices, and prepare annual updates to manuals, guidelines, and standard drawings.
Participate in meetings with Tollway staff, designers, contractors, and stakeholders to discuss findings and project needs.
Perform electrical inspections of Illinois Tollway buildings and facilities to identify deficiencies and corrective actions.
Coordinate remediation efforts with Tollway maintenance staff, district personnel, and contractors to address identified defects.
Prepare clear inspection reports documenting system conditions, deficiencies, and recommended corrective measures.
Develop programmatic cost estimates for facility upgrades, system replacements, and maintenance activities.
Support maintenance operations by developing plans, technical details, or sketches when engineered solutions are required.
Maintain organized records, inspection logs, and documentation to support asset management and long‑term capital planning.
Provide technical input to risk assessments, asset evaluations, and budget planning for the facility program.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering for facilities, buildings, or transportation infrastructure.
Experience preparing technical reports, inspection summaries, and cost estimates.
Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA codes, electrical safety requirements, and general industry standards.
Ability to review and comment on design plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills suitable for reporting to Tollway leadership and project stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois or the ability to obtain it within the designated period.

Job Description

An on-site, contract opportunity in Downers Grove, IL for a senior nuclear engineer (civil/structural) to lead upgrades and new plant projects. The role offers independent technical leadership, mentorship of junior engineers, and the opportunity to improve performance and reliability of nuclear facilities. Per diem is available per site to support field work.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering and design activities for nuclear power plant upgrades and new plant projects
Develop project specifications, engineering calculations, and modification packages
Define design scope and prepare design criteria documents
Identify and select equipment and instrumentation for plant systems
Evaluate plant conditions and formulate engineering solutions to enhance performance and reliability
Review and verify engineering designs, drawings, and technical data prepared by others
Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality for assigned work
Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines and client representatives
Provide mentoring and technical oversight to junior and entry-level engineers

Requirements

Minimum 20 years of engineering experience
Strong familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry
Working knowledge of NRC regulations
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Solid time management and organizational skills, with the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes
Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access
Willingness to work overtime when required
Ability to travel to client sites with occasional field and office work
Ability to perform plant walkdowns, including climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and accessing controlled areas in an industrial plant environment
