Nuclear Engineer V, Civil Structural
Job Description
An on-site, contract opportunity in Downers Grove, IL for a senior nuclear engineer (civil/structural) to lead upgrades and new plant projects. The role offers independent technical leadership, mentorship of junior engineers, and the opportunity to improve performance and reliability of nuclear facilities. Per diem is available per site to support field work.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering and design activities for nuclear power plant upgrades and new plant projects
- Develop project specifications, engineering calculations, and modification packages
- Define design scope and prepare design criteria documents
- Identify and select equipment and instrumentation for plant systems
- Evaluate plant conditions and formulate engineering solutions to enhance performance and reliability
- Review and verify engineering designs, drawings, and technical data prepared by others
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality for assigned work
- Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines and client representatives
- Provide mentoring and technical oversight to junior and entry-level engineers
- Participate in plant walkdowns and provide field support as required
Requirements
- Minimum 20 years of engineering experience
- Strong familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry
- Working knowledge of NRC regulations
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Solid time management and organizational skills, with the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes
- Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access
- Willingness to work overtime when required
- Ability to travel to client sites with occasional field and office work
- Ability to perform plant walkdowns, including climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and accessing controlled areas in an industrial plant environment
