Job Description

Overview

System One seeks experienced Nuclear Engineers with a civil and structural focus to support upgrades at existing nuclear power plants and new project initiatives. This on-site, long-term contract role is targeting a senior professional who can lead technical efforts with minimal supervision. The position involves planning, organizing, and delivering plant modifications while applying industry standards, techniques, procedures, and engineering criteria to evaluate plant conditions and proposed changes. The engineer will develop specifications, modification packages, define design scope, and select equipment and instrumentation to enable system functionality. The role includes managing project scope, schedule, budget, and quality, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and client representatives to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering and design activities for upgrades to existing nuclear plants and for new plant projects.
  • Develop specifications, engineering calculations, and modification packages.
  • Define engineering design scope and prepare design criteria documents.
  • Identify and select equipment and instrumentation for plant systems.
  • Evaluate plant conditions and develop engineering solutions to improve performance and reliability.
  • Review and verify engineering designs, drawings, and technical data prepared by other engineers.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality for assigned work.
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines and client representatives.
  • Provide mentoring and technical oversight to junior and entry-level engineers.
  • Participate in plant walkdowns and provide field support as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum Experience: 20+ years of related engineering experience; at least 10 years in commercial nuclear power plant environments; direct field experience supporting nuclear plant projects; familiarity with operating plant procedures, processes, and nuclear plant licensing.
  • Required Qualifications: Strong familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry; working knowledge of NRC regulations; excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong time management and organizational abilities to manage multiple projects concurrently; ability to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes.

Education and Certifications

  • Desired Education: MS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Desired Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) License.

Additional Information

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Per Diem available per site.
  • Must pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to travel to client sites with occasional field and office work.
  • Capability to perform plant walkdowns, including climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and accessing controlled areas in an industrial plant environment.
