Summary
We are seeking a highly capable Lead Electrical Engineer for Facilities to join our Illinois Tollway GEC team. Our approach centers on leveraging top talent to meet client objectives and address challenges. You will work with our inspection team on Tollway projects and engage with Tollway stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the Electrical Engineering Subject Matter Expert for the Illinois Tollway GEC, reviewing all proposed Tollway construction, rehabilitation, and improvement packages for electrical compliance, constructability, safety, and quality.
- Evaluate current Tollway electrical standards, specifications, and practices and prepare annual updates to manuals, guidelines, and standard drawings.
- Participate in meetings with Tollway staff, designers, contractors, and stakeholders to discuss findings, recommendations, and project needs.
- Conduct electrical inspections of all Illinois Tollway buildings and facilities to identify deficiencies and recommended corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Tollway maintenance staff, district personnel, and contractors to plan and coordinate remediation of identified defects.
- Prepare clear, comprehensive inspection reports documenting electrical system conditions, deficiencies, and suggested corrective measures.
- Develop programmatic cost estimates for facility upgrades, system replacements, and maintenance activities.
- Support maintenance operations by developing plans, technical details, or sketches when electrical issues require engineered solutions.
- Maintain organized records, inspection logs, and documentation to support asset management and long-term capital planning.
- Provide technical input to risk assessments, asset evaluations, and budget planning for the facility program.

Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering for facilities, buildings, or transportation infrastructure.
- Experience preparing technical reports, inspection summaries, and cost estimates.
- Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA codes, electrical safety requirements, and general industry standards.
- Ability to review and comment on design plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for reporting to Tollway leadership and project stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois or the ability to obtain it within a designated period.
