The Senior Principal Systems Engineer II - Systems Architect at BAE Systems oversees the development and management of system, hardware and software requirements within the Controls and Avionics Solutions portfolio, shaping architectures and guiding system-level integration, testing and validation.
The position emphasizes cross-functional collaboration to deliver safety-critical embedded control designs that meet stringent functional specifications and customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead systems engineering activities across the project lifecycle, including developing, allocating, and managing complex system, hardware and software requirements.
- Research and develop complex, safety-critical embedded control system designs and architectures.
- Define interfaces and functionality for hardware, software and programmable logic.
- Prepare and review documentation for system designs and architectures in line with established development processes.
- Perform system and product integration.
- Verify and validate moderately complex aspects of system designs to ensure conformance with specifications and customer requirements.
- Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications and standards.
- Support business leaders in identifying potential new products or opportunities and define associated program requirements.
- Assist with proposal development activities, including proposal text, cost estimating and presentations.
- May support specialty engineering tasks such as Reliability, Maintainability & Availability analysis and Integrated Logistics Support.
- Prepare and deliver basic customer and technical presentations.
- Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills and effective interpersonal coordination with company personnel, customers and suppliers.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related engineering field.
- Experience in designing, architecting and integrating electronic control systems that include hardware, software and programmable logic devices.
- 12+ years of avionics or electronic controls embedded development experience, with familiarity across flight controls, engine controls or mission systems.
- Experience in full lifecycle development including system requirements, design, system-level integration, validation and verification.
- Strong technical writing skills capable of producing required engineering documentation.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $136,000 - $231,200 per year. This range reflects market pay structures; actual salary is determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education and experience.
