Embedded Software Engineer - All Levels
Job Description
Embedded Software Engineers at BAE Systems Inc. will support the development of next-generation flight control and related avionics systems within the Electronic Systems organization (Controls and Avionics Solutions). The role is based in Endicott, NY (hybrid) with program work also in Austin, TX, spanning the embedded software product lifecycle from planning through integration and test.
Role Overview
In this position, you will design, develop, and integrate embedded software across the product development lifecycle. Engagement may include technical collaboration on program activities, and in some cases technical leadership responsibilities such as mentoring and presenting technical designs at customer technical interchange meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute across software life-cycle phases, including project planning, requirements development, software design and implementation, and integration and test
- Create software designs and implementations aligned to stringent requirements for complex embedded control systems
- Develop embedded software using Green Hills, ARM Development Studio, or other embedded development environments for targets ranging from PowerPC to multi-core ARM processors
- Use and evolve existing processes to apply effective techniques that support minimizing design and product cost
- Provide leadership through mentoring and customer interfacing
- Support program needs as either a technical collaborator or a technical leader, including mentoring and presenting technical designs at technical interchange meetings with the customer
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of embedded software development experience using C/C++/Assembly
- Experience developing on bare metal operating systems (no OS or proprietary RTOS), including low-level development such as device drivers and BSP development

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with embedded real-time operating system development
- Experience with PowerPC, ARM, or x86 processor architectures
- Hardware/software integration and debug experience
- Familiarity with source control systems and configuration management practices
- Experience with higher-level programming and scripting languages such as JAVA, Python, Matlab, and Simulink
- Familiarity with safety-critical development using DO-178B/C or equivalent stringent process requirements
Compensation
Full-Time Salary Range: USD 107,359 - 182,510 per year.
