Job Description

Advance mission-critical systems while contributing to a team that operates across a wide range of software and engineering disciplines. This position is based in Fort Meade, MD (onsite) with relocation expenses reimbursed (as eligible under agency policy). The role offers a $105,262 - $192,764 salary range, full-time schedule, and a Top Secret security clearance requirement within a Critical-Sensitive (CS)/High Risk environment.

  • Apply common tools and areas of interest, including: COBOL, C/C++, Java, cloud computing, Angular, React, Python, PIG Analytics, Pyspark, agile development, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Linux (VMWare), ElasticSearch, Rust, micro services, Ansible, clusters, digital forensics, incident response, and quantum
  • Upload a copy of your transcripts from all schools attended prior to applying (unofficial transcripts are fine at this stage)

Required qualifications

  • Relevant experience must include the software development process (requirements analysis, software design, implementation, testing, integration, deployment/installation, and maintenance) and programming
  • FULL PERFORMANCE entry options:
    • Bachelor's degree plus 3 years relevant experience
    • Master's degree plus 1 year relevant experience
    • Doctoral degree with no experience
  • SENIOR entry options:
    • Bachelor's degree plus 6 years relevant experience
    • Master's degree plus 4 years relevant experience
    • Doctoral degree plus 2 years relevant experience
  • Additional consideration: Associate's degree plus 5 years (in-depth, clearly related experience) for entry, and Associate's degree plus 8 years (in-depth, clearly related experience) may also be considered
  • Degree must be in Computer Science (CS) or Software Engineering
  • Related fields may be considered if the program includes at minimum concentrations in algorithms; computer architecture (not network architecture); programming methodologies and languages; data structures; logic and computation; and advanced mathematics (for example, calculus, discrete mathematics)
  • Education used to meet qualification requirements must come from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Failure to provide all required information may result in an ineligible rating or affect the overall rating

How you will be evaluated

  • Industry norms may be used, including Docker, AWS, GitLab, open source contributions (see code.nsa.gov for examples of NSA contribution), and relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience with COBOL or IBM mainframe is preferred
  • Specialized skills or interest may include advanced mathematics (number theory, abstract algebra, linear algebra, probability theory, discrete mathematics), data structures, algorithms, operating systems, computer architecture
  • Preferred technical depth may include cryptography (symmetric and asymmetric, hash functions, encryption, digital signatures, key exchange), TLS/SSL and secure communications, HSMs and secure computing platforms, SIEM/IDS/vulnerability assessment tools, and adherence to security standards (NIST, ISO 27001, OWASP)
  • Teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal skills may be considered
  • Prior Intelligence Community experience is preferred
