Application Engineer
Job Description
PowerGen, Inc. is hiring an Application Engineer to support generator installation estimating and project development, while also partnering with the Service Department. The position blends hands-on site coordination with bid package ownership, repair coordination, and business development outreach, with a hybrid work setup in Tracy, CA.
Role Overview
In this role, you will assist with site walks and generator installation quotes for both residential and commercial projects. You will also take the lead on RFP responses by building complete, competitive, and well-documented bid packages, while supporting maintenance estimating and larger service agreement scoping.
Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Application Engineer by conducting site walks and preparing quotes for residential and commercial generator installation projects.
- Own the process of responding to RFPs, assembling complete and well-documented bid packages.
- Help scope and quote larger generator maintenance projects and service agreements.
- Serve as the single point of contact (SPOC) for generator repair projects, coordinating between clients, technicians, and internal teams.
- Generate new opportunities through B2B cold outreach focused on generator sales and service.
- Prepare accurate scopes, pricing, and supporting documentation for proposals and project work.
- Collaborate with field technicians, sales, and management to ensure quotes reflect real-world conditions and stay on scope and schedule.
Requirements
- Solid understanding of mechanical or electrical systems, including the ability to interpret specifications and accurately scope generator projects.
- Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to improve efficiency (drafting outreach, summarizing specs, accelerating documentation, and supporting estimating).
- Experience preparing quotes, estimates, bids, or RFP responses for technical, construction-related, or service work is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple quotes, bids, and projects at the same time.
- Professional verbal and written communication for interacting with clients, technicians, and vendors, including comfort with proactive outreach.
- Proactive, ownership-minded approach with the ability to drive projects and outreach forward without being micromanaged.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn service management software, estimating tools, and manufacturer databases quickly.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client sites for site walks and project coordination.
- Prior experience in power generation, machinery, HVAC, electrical, or a related mechanical or construction industry.
Location, Schedule, and Pay
- Location: Hybrid remote in Tracy, CA 95304
- Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
