Job Description
This role centers on the day-to-day maintenance of the school vessel Freedom Star and on monthly sailing to provide hands-on training for unlicensed apprentices. The position operates within the engine department of a maritime school, engaging with a diverse student body across different backgrounds and levels of experience.
Responsibilities
- Oversee routine maintenance of the school ship, the Freedom Star, ensuring reliability and readiness.
- Coordinate a monthly four-day voyage, crewed to enable unlicensed apprentices to participate.
- Collaborate in the engine department within a maritime school, engaging with students of varying education levels, job titles, ages, and ethnic backgrounds.
Requirements
- Valid MMC with the appropriate Chief Engineer license; horsepower qualifications include Motor Limited 4,000 HP or Motor Limited under 1,600 HP.
- TWIC credential.
- Public speaking proficiency.
- Equivalent military service time may be evaluated.
