Civil Engineer- Muncipal

The Civil Engineer - Municipal role supports municipal and public agency projects, serving as the primary point of contact and coordinating design and analysis to meet client expectations. The position encompasses design work, regulatory compliance, environmental risk assessment, and field support for construction inspection.

Compensation

Salary: USD 87,150 - 161,850 per year

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a related engineering role

Responsibilities

• Act as the project manager for one or more municipalities or public agencies, serving as the single point of contact between the firm and the client and coordinating all projects to the client’s satisfaction
• Develop or implement engineering solutions to assist clients in improving and maintaining their infrastructure
• Design transportation, utility, facility, or hydraulic systems or structures using computer aided design tools
• Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to establish design specifications
• Estimate quantities and costs of materials, equipment, or labor to assess project feasibility
• Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data
• Conduct studies of traffic patterns or environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess project impact
• Ensure all design activities comply with environmental, safety, and related regulatory requirements
• Identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies for projects
• Attend regularly scheduled public meetings on behalf of municipal clients as Municipal Engineer or Land Use Board Engineer; prepare and present public reports on bid proposals, project status, and developmental reviews
• Provide technical advice to clients regarding design, construction, or capital program modifications
• Support field activities of construction inspection staff, including supplying timely data, reviewing shop drawings, and coordinating with clients

Working Environment / Physical Requirements

The role may involve office work, field assignments, or a combination depending on project needs. Field activities can expose personnel to outdoor conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and snow, and may require occasional swing shifts, night work, or proximity to active traffic. OSHA and other safety regulations require regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Field duties involve frequent walking and standing, with safety awareness paramount.
