Commissioning Engineer
Job Description
Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to oversee multi-discipline design reviews and the commissioning of critical data center infrastructure for new construction and special projects. This on-site role in Herndon, VA requires coordinating vendors, contractors, and internal teams, while ensuring safety, environmental, and quality standards are met, with regular progress reporting.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-discipline oversight of design reviews and commissioning for Amazon's critical data center infrastructure on new builds and special projects, coordinating vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
- Provide cross-disciplinary support to vendors, contractors, and teams involved in constructing and commissioning systems such as medium and low voltage power, generators, UPS, HVAC, chilled water, BMS, and EPMS.
- Contribute to project scheduling, test script development, design decisions, and overall planning across projects.
- Develop and review electrical and mechanical component tests and integrated systems testing along with commissioning documents to ensure alignment with the basis of design, specifications, industry standards, and sequences of operations.
- Ensure commissioning procedures follow applicable safety practices and policies.
- Continuously audit commissioning activities to verify compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
- Maintain proactive communication with the ACx Regional Manager and the ACx team to create and execute test documents in accordance with commissioning requirements.
- Provide comprehensive weekly reports detailing project status, lessons learned, and program improvements to elevate program quality.
- Cover multiple in-flight projects and tight schedules as needed.
Requirements
- 3+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning experience with electrical and mechanical systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- NETA or ASHRAE certification, or commissioning focused education courses.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.

Compensation
Salary: USD 96,600 - 160,000 per year.

Physical Requirements

Additional Job Requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50 percent of the year; typical travel is around 20 percent.
- Must provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office; reimbursement provided.
