Job Description

Hargrove and Associates, Inc. is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer to support complete electrical and instrumentation design work from early concepts through detailed deliverables. Based in the Beaumont office and performed under general supervision, this role contributes to calculations, drawings and documentation, vendor reviews, and field support, while helping coordinate critical information across engineering disciplines.

You will work on a range of projects, including estimate-level preliminary designs and detail design packages, with an emphasis on designs that support efficient construction and align with client expectations. The position also includes on-site assistance during startup and providing technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Use department design and drafting standards, and apply project scope, specifications and design criteria to assigned tasks.
  • Identify and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Support on-site activities during startup.
  • Create estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs aligned with the estimate level being performed.
  • Produce detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
  • Design for efficient use of construction materials, with an overall focus on ease of construction and delivering results that meet client expectations.
  • Check engineering calculations completed by others to ensure accuracy, code compliance, specification conformance, and alignment with good engineering practice.
  • Help the drafting group resolve routine layout and detailing issues.
  • Coordinate with design leaders from other disciplines to maintain smooth information flow needed for scheduled project completion.
  • Advise senior engineers regarding identified design or scope changes.
  • Assist in assembling electrical/instrumentation “packages” that enable purchase inquiries for procurement or subcontract pricing.
  • Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
  • Develop construction specifications and review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Apply discipline-specific methods and advanced engineering techniques and analysis for complex designs, including process and manufacturing project support.
  • Create installation details and electrical deliverables such as motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, and control panel layouts including grounding, lighting, power and instrumentation plans under general supervision.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest and most efficient approach to engineering tasks.
  • Develop small work sharing packages to support interoffice execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details for construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.
  • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for lighting and power applications.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.
  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray and calculate tray and conduit fill.
  • Ability to determine motor control center loading and load center unit substation loading.
  • Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.
  • Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and actuated valves.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and controls standards (ISA).
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, and load center unit substations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets for small projects or areas of larger projects.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.
