Job Description

Telemetry & Process Controls is seeking an Electrical Engineer who specializes in UL 508A design to lead the engineering, layout, and compliance of industrial control panels built in a certified shop. The role centers on ensuring panel assemblies meet UL 508A and NEC requirements, while supporting production on a hybrid schedule based in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar software.
  • Maintain strict compliance with UL 508A standards for component spacing, wire sizing, and grounding to mitigate electrical hazards.
  • Choose and source UL-listed or UL-recognized components, including PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, relays, and circuit breakers, ensuring appropriate voltage and environmental ratings.
  • Conduct engineering analyses such as Short-Circuit Current Rating (SCCR), power load, and thermal management studies to support safe, reliable designs.
  • Provide on-site technical guidance to panel builders to ensure assemblies align with engineering blueprints and preserve UL certification integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of UL 508A, NEC (NFPA 70), and NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or EPLAN; familiarity with PLC programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley) is preferred.
  • Ability to calculate wire bending space, conduit fill, and power distribution architecture for low to medium voltage systems.
  • While not always required, a UL 508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR) qualification or a Professional Engineer (PE) license is advantageous.
