Spectrum Control, Inc. offers competitive pay, PTO, and benefits that begin on day 1, plus a 3-day weekend. This role supports both hands-on bench time and remote work depending on the phase of development, with travel required to the company’s manufacturing facility in Frederick, MD.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy the Linux operating system using the Yocto Build Flow.
- Maintain software revisions and deployment workflows using Git and Docker.
- Develop high-quality embedded application software in C/C++ for ARM-based processors.
- Develop computer networking software infrastructure.
- Create automated test software in C# to control RF test instruments (signal generators, spectrum/network analyzers, power meters) and collect measurement data.
- Use Artificial Intelligence tools to enhance productivity and problem-solving.
- Derive requirements and verification methods for embedded systems.
- Produce detailed documentation of system functionality.
- Provide internal and external customer support as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- 5+ years of embedded software development.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and hold a US Security Clearance (Secret Level) (US ONLY).
- Expert-level knowledge of Linux and building embedded Linux systems with Yocto, including custom layers and recipes, BSP integration, kernel configuration, device trees, and U-Boot.
- Strong knowledge of computer networking protocols and tools, and computer architecture.
- Strong C/C++ skills for embedded software on ARM-based processors, including cross-compilation toolchains, hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART), and debugging with JTAG/GDB.
- Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash for build automation and test tooling.
- Experience building embedded Linux for Altera or AMD FPGA SoCs is preferred.
- C#/.NET experience for test applications is preferred.
- Experience with instrument control and test automation using SCPI over VISA (GPIB, LXI/Ethernet, USBTMC) is preferred.
- Knowledge of embedded security practices (preferred): secure boot, encrypted filesystems, and signed software updates.
Work Environment
- On-site expectations vary by development phase: during hardware bring-up, integration, and test periods, daily on-site presence at the bench is required; during design and software-focused phases, remote work is supported.
- Candidates should not expect a fixed weekly hybrid schedule; flexibility is driven by hardware needs.
- Travel to the manufacturing facility in Frederick, MD is required at least once per month.
- Based at a Spectrum Control facility in Marlborough, MA, Philadelphia, PA, Fairview, PA, or Delmar, DE.
- Candidates should be located within reasonable commuting distance of one of the listed locations.
Recruiter Policy
- Per Spectrum Control policy, unsolicited resumes from third-party recruiters are not accepted unless the recruiter is engaged to provide candidates for a specified opening and aligned with company values and expectations.
- Any employment agency, person, or entity that submits an unsolicited resume does so with the understanding that Spectrum Control may hire the applicant at its discretion without owing a fee to the submitting party.
- If you want to become an approved vendor, contact [email protected].
Location: Marlborough, MA (onsite). Salary: USD 135,000 - 165,000 per year.
