Engineer (Property Maintenance)
Job Description
Daxton Hotel in Birmingham, MI is seeking an Engineer (Property Maintenance) to maintain equipment, systems and building components onsite, support safety and preventative maintenance, and ensure timely guest service, reporting to the Chief Operating Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Maintain positive working relationships with associates by promoting teamwork and fostering a harmonious environment.
- Maintain all equipment, systems and building components, including mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile and other equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs and cleaning in guest rooms, public spaces, event spaces, outlets, back of house spaces and grounds.
- Be familiar with the hotel safety systems and take corrective action on maintenance or operating problems affecting security or operations.
- Participate in the room preventative maintenance program.
- Use observation to detect equipment malfunctions and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance staff to diagnose problems or complete repairs.
- Repair and maintain the physical structure of the establishment and furnishings as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards; participate in scheduled training and meetings.
- Transport heavy boxes and packages within the hotel for maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with the delivery and setup of new equipment such as televisions, mattresses, tables and chairs.
- Communicate with the Chief Operating Engineer on assigned projects.
- Respond to guest requests in a timely and personable manner.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of experience in building maintenance; prior hotel engineering experience is preferred or comparable experience at an apartment complex or office building.
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC and plumbing; certifications are a plus.
- Proficiency in reading, writing and verbal English communication.
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods, bend, climb stairs and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work independently and self-motivate.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
