Generation Plant Engineer I
Job Description
APS offers a structured development pathway for engineers in the power generation sector. This onsite role in Phoenix includes a formal Development Program with rotations and the potential to transition to a permanent position after successful completion. You will gain hands-on experience designing, developing, modifying, and implementing systems within APS power generation facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the analysis and preparation of data, technical reviews, trend analyses, technology assessments, product verifications, and investigations to support decision making. May present findings to management, internal staff, customers, and vendors.
- Support the preparation of engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and studies. Produce engineering documentation such as drawings, construction notes, purchase orders, specifications, work orders, and bid evaluations, ensuring analyses, design, and controls are technically sound, cost effective, and compliant with standards and regulations.
- Interface with customers and other departments to confirm objectives, ensure alignment with requirements, and meet budget and scheduling targets.
- Provide technical and field support within assigned areas of specialty. Identify deficiencies, potential schedule or quality issues, troubleshoot, and initiate corrective action plans. Perform periodic testing and analysis of system data to minimize failures and ensure compliance with design, regulatory, operating, and maintenance requirements.
- Participate in preparing business cases and operational plans to enable successful project implementation.
- Communicate technical results to customers and various management levels, presenting designs, studies, or approaches to peers, management, and stakeholders.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving technologies and industry developments, continually enhancing engineering capabilities through formal education and self-study.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance recognized institution, or ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement.
- Ability to apply foundational engineering principles, practices, and theories using common engineering methods and calculations.
- Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, practices, and safety requirements within the relevant engineering discipline.
- Approved engineering degrees include Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, and Structural. A four-year Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not automatically equivalent to a BS in Engineering; degree program curricula require review by engineering management.
