Geotechnical Engineer
Job Description
Cape Fear Engineering is seeking a licensed Geotechnical Engineer to join its onsite team in Leland, North Carolina. The role blends fieldwork and office analysis to support geotechnical investigations, laboratory services, and project management for infrastructure and site development projects. The ideal candidate holds a Professional Engineer license and brings 4 to 6 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities
- Provide support in the field and in the office for Geotechnical projects and mentor Geotechnical Technicians in our onsite lab and out in the field.
- Execute geotechnical project assignments including geotechnical investigations, laboratory services, engineering analysis and report preparation.
- Provide recommendations for foundation design, slope stability and earthwork.
- Assist with project management and maintain communication with clients.
- Contribute to marketing and business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities, supporting pursuit efforts, and representing the firm at industry events and networking functions.
- Mentoring and training of laboratory and field technician staff as needed.
- Demonstrate professional growth, adaptability, and a positive team-first attitude while expanding geotechnical knowledge and supporting evolving business needs.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is highly desired
- Professional Engineering Licensure for 4 - 6 years is required
- North Carolina and South Carolina Professional Engineer license, or the ability to get both promptly
- Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering and related disciplines
- Full knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam (preferred)
- Must speak and write English fluently and maintain a valid Driver's License
- Must be able to meet Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) and other military base specific access requirements
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds occasionally. Additional requirements may be needed for specific sites/locations
