Job Description

The role provides leadership and delivery of building automation system (BAS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) integration designs for hyperscale data centers and similar mission-critical environments. The position coordinates with internal and external teams and serves as a people manager to drive successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the client program lead, project trade lead, and subject matter expert for the BAS and EPMS scope on one or more projects or programs.
  • Develop client standards and basis of design (BOD), conduct feasibility studies, and assist clients with building automation roadmaps.
  • Lead integration design efforts for DDC and PLC based BAS and EPMS systems.
  • Design controls network and system architecture, aligning IT and OT requirements.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation, sensors, actuators, valves, and other field devices.
  • Coordinate with equipment, system, and product vendors to establish BAS interface requirements.
  • Create and review project book and sheet specifications, and the sequence of operations.
  • Develop and review system diagrams and point / alarm lists.
  • Collaborate with client IT departments on network design, interface details, and security requirements.
  • Provide direction on engineering production aspects with internal and external Revit / BIM resources.
  • Ensure construction document deliverables for BAS submittal packages are complete and accurate.
  • Plan and execute construction support activities with internal field personnel and subcontractors.
  • Lead building automation focused design reviews and page turns.
  • Participate in internal and external quality control and peer reviews of engineering work.
  • Lead project meeting discussions on engineering scope with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage project communications and reporting, including progress updates for stakeholders.
  • Maintain personal time records using company tools and monitor team objectives to achieve goals.
  • Guide departmental or organizational projects to align with broader focus and strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, acting as a point of contact for workplace rules.
  • Direct team members to maintain consistency with organizational objectives and deliverable quality.
  • Improve team efficiency through prioritization strategies and targeted coaching for team members.
  • Resolve conflicts to foster collaboration and a productive work environment.
  • Conduct routine performance evaluations and 1:1 meetings, providing feedback and setting objectives.
  • Participate in organizational strategy discussions to synchronize departmental and company goals.
  • Encourage interdepartmental communication to enhance overall understanding within the organization.
  • Align team efforts with overarching company strategies and effectively communicate details to all stakeholders.
  • Optimize resource management and task assignments, adapting allocation to project demands and needs.
  • Cultivate a collaborative team environment and support hiring and recruiting processes as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience guiding BAS project designs through client standards, needs identification, and option evaluation.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and strong organizational skills for file management.
  • Knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to deliver accurate, detail-oriented work and to design BAS and EPMS packages.
  • Understanding of construction design processes, stakeholders, and deliverables.
  • Familiarity with code requirements and energy guidelines related to BAS designs.
  • Knowledge of data center HVAC applications and BAS control strategies, including chilled water plants.
  • Understanding of IoT and smart building solutions; familiarity with networking concepts including addressing, VLANs, LANs, switches, and routers.
  • Knowledge of OT communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, MQTT) and DDC/PLC systems used in building automation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and drive innovation.
  • Capable of working effectively in a remote environment with strong communication, self-motivation, and proactive work habits.
  • Commitment to safety requirements and the ability to analyze and prepare technical documents and reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging clients as needed.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively as a team member and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Resilience under pressure, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and plan and delegate work.
  • Experience mentoring and training junior engineers.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent handling of small parts, devices or tools; regular remaining in a stationary position
  • Regular movement through office environments, facilities and potentially outdoor conditions, including variable temperatures and weather

  • Occasional handling of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Travel / Relocation Requirements

  • Up to 20 percent travel, potentially to any of the 50 states
  • From May 7, 2025, travelers must hold a valid REAL ID or an acceptable alternative such as a passport for domestic travel
  • Travel may involve car or air transportation depending on destination and business needs
  • Travel includes leaving home for client site visits, meetings, business development activities, and industry events
