Job Description

Lead Data Engineer on the Enterprise Data & Analytics Team at the American Red Cross, responsible for modernizing data architecture, designing data pipelines and an enterprise data warehouse, ensuring data quality, and mentoring team members; remote with in-person meetings as needed and periodic weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with analytics and business units to enhance data models powering BI tools, boosting data accessibility and supporting data driven decision making across the organization.
  • Develop and deploy scalable data integration, storage, reporting, and analytic solutions aligned with data governance standards and the architectural roadmap.
  • Architect, build, and test data integration flows; create, automate, and document unit, integration, and functional tests.
  • Oversee automated deployments via Git based pipelines, maintaining version control and reliable releases.
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams to streamline deployment workflows and monitor pipelines for reliability and performance.
  • Analyze data to troubleshoot issues by establishing a data quality framework and assist in issue resolution.
  • Provide technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and related hands on activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or related field.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.
  • Experience with a variety of database technologies and data warehouse schema design patterns.
  • Cloud based databases, with emphasis on AWS technologies.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including writing and optimizing queries for large scale, complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience using AI assisted tools (for example GitHub Copilot, Duo) across the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience creating ETL and/or ELT jobs.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (Git, Artifactory, etc.).
  • Experience in Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience leading data engineering teams in onshore/offshore models, mentoring junior engineers through code reviews and pair programming, and establishing team best practices.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Process oriented with strong documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross.

Pay Information

  • Annual salary range: $140,000 - $155,000
  • No annual bonus for this role
  • Salaries aligned to the geographic location where the work is primarily performed
  • Salary may be influenced by skills, experience, and internal comparisons
  • Salary information reviewed during phone screening based on location and experience
  • Job posting active for a minimum of five business days and may be extended if the applicant pool requires expansion
