Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
PMX Industries Inc. invites applications for a Mechanical Engineer to strengthen equipment reliability, drive process improvements, manage capital projects, and foster continuous improvement within a heavy industrial manufacturing setting at the Cedar Rapids, IA campus (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Design and implement mechanical systems and equipment upgrades to support manufacturing operations.
- Assess equipment performance to identify opportunities for increased reliability, productivity, safety, and efficiency.
- Lead and assist capital improvement initiatives from concept through installation and commissioning.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures and collaborate with maintenance and production teams to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Develop engineering specifications, equipment standards, and maintenance recommendations.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders on equipment purchases, installations, and upgrades.
- Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and technical documentation.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime.
- Apply engineering principles and analytical methods to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies, environmental regulations, and engineering standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts aimed at quality, cost reduction, productivity, and operational excellence.
- Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations personnel as needed.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.
- Five to ten years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience supporting heavy manufacturing, metals, mining, chemical processing, paper, food processing, or similar operations is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification is a plus but not required.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
- Experience managing capital projects and equipment installations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of CAD software and engineering design principles.
- Solid analytical and troubleshooting skills for resolving complex mechanical issues.
- Excellent communication and project management capabilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard engineering software applications.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in English for all business and job-related communications.
