Petroleum Engineer

Holmes Western Oil Corp offers an onsite engineering role in Taft, CA with a salary range of USD 130,000 to 170,000 per year. The position covers Reservoir, Production, and Facilities engineering within steam flood and water flood operations, with potential to supervise thermal and water flood programs. This hands-on, field-focused role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration and growth in responsibility in a dynamic oilfield environment.

Responsibilities

• Subsurface reservoir and production engineering: perform thermal steam flood and water flood calculations to optimize sweep efficiency and heat management; monitor reservoir performance to identify production-enhancement opportunities; optimize rod pumping to maximize uptime and oil production in heavy oil settings; design and implement surveillance programs to track injection performance.
• Well interventions and completions: develop workover procedures for injection and production wells; supervise completions and recompletions while preserving wellbore integrity in high-temperature steam environments; troubleshoot failures and implement strategies to extend subsurface equipment life.
• Surface facilities and integrated operations: collaborate with surface facilities teams to improve steam flood and water flood performance; coordinate with operations to manage steam flood and water flood projects.
• Cross-functional collaboration: partner daily with Drilling, Capital Projects, Well Service, Maintenance, and Accounting teams; translate technical data and project details for non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in the San Joaquin Valley oilfields.
• Experience with heavy oil recovery methods, including thermal/steam and water flood processes.
• A degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• Strong field orientation with practical understanding of oil production processes beyond modeling.
• Proven ability to collaborate across functions and a demonstrated interest in progressing into leadership responsibilities.

Working Conditions

Location: Taft, CA, onsite. A significant portion of the role involves fieldwork, working alongside operations teams and contractor personnel.
