Plan Review Engineer
Job Description
Plan Review Engineer responsibilities include conducting code-based plan reviews for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, issuing deficiency letters, coordinating with owners and design teams, and maintaining thorough records while supporting staff development.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive plan reviews of residential, commercial, and industrial projects, from simple to complex.
- Assess construction documents for compliance with applicable building codes and regulations.
- Assemble deficiency letters that reference the pertinent codes from code books.
- Communicate deficiencies and proposed solutions to project owners and design teams.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of plan review status and project completion.
- Ensure turnaround times align with established client service expectations.
- Occasionally visit construction sites to observe phases and methods of construction.
- Provide feedback to support the growth and development of the plan review and intake staff.
- Most work is performed in an office environment, with extended periods at a computer.
- Pursue civil or structural engineering licensure, obtain ICC plan review certifications, and participate in ongoing education.
- Foster goodwill and collaboration within the office.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum three (3) years of design or plan review experience.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited college or university.
- A California Professional Civil (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) license is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of electronics, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam software is preferred.
- Proficient writing skills.
