Power Electronics Engineer
Job Description
ESI Motion is seeking a senior power electronics engineer to lead end-to-end development for power electronics platforms supporting Space Orbital missions, Lunar Missions, and Aerospace and Defense projects. The role focuses on building reliable systems through design, system integration, documentation, testing, and coordination across hardware and software teams, with ownership spanning from product definition through release and maintenance.
This onsite position is based in Simi Valley, CA. The salary range is USD 160,000 per year, and the position requires 10+ years of experience.
Role scope
- Lead development, design, system integration, and maintenance of power electronics platforms for Space Orbital missions, Lunar Missions, and Aerospace and Defense projects
- Provide independent product design and development work that applies scientific analysis and mathematical models
Responsibilities
- Lead teams in product definition, materials selection, architecture, and review activities
- Recommend and implement hardware solutions and improved practices
- Develop and maintain micro-controller operated digital and analog electronics according to established company methodologies and processes
- Interface with customers to determine and define requirements
- Guide engineering, packaging, and board layout activities
- Lead feedback discussions on hardware requirements related to design, time, feasibility, and related factors
- Collaborate with team members to develop complete systems across hardware and software
- Own start-to-finish new product development including product definition, design, parts selection, and qualification
- Generate engineering documentation such as specifications, schematics, layouts, BOM, and qualification reports
- Lead development and testing of PC graphical user interfaces
- Follow programming guidelines and use a software version control system
- Document test plans and test results, and lead and design test stand equipment
- Coordinate and execute hardware releases, version upgrades, and custom interfaces according to company quality assurance practices
- Create and review design and product information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy
- Consult with other engineering staff to evaluate hardware and software interfaces and operational and performance requirements of overall system designs
- Plan, manage, and execute multiple activities while maintaining quality requirements, budget costs, and schedule milestones
- Lead and mentor other team members
Required qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or another related Engineering discipline
- Advanced application of electrical and software engineering concepts
- Advanced design, analysis, and testing of micro-controller operated digital and analog electronics
- Advanced experience in PSpice simulations
- Embedded systems software design
- Experience with IGBTs, Mosfets, and other power drivers and current sensors
- Experience with motor control systems and actuator electronics
- Experience with satellite battery systems
- Release management and document control
- Application lifecycle management
- Analog and digital circuits including A/D and D/A converters
- ORCAD schematics tool
- Radiation Effects
- Digital signal processing, control systems, and digital filters
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Worst Case Circuit Analysis capability
