Job Description
Principal or Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, Vehicle Subsystems and Integration, at Northrop Grumman centers on electrical design, analysis, requirements management, and troubleshooting for aircraft subsystems. The role is on site at Palmdale, CA; Oklahoma City, OK; or Whiteman AFB, MO, with about 10 percent travel.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical wiring for a defined functional system, selecting aircraft-grade conductors and electromechanical components such as connectors, relays, switches, circuit breakers, and terminal junctions.
- Define requirements for electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution, along with circuit protection for aerospace vehicle systems, including Electrical Loads Analysis, test procedures, power architectures, reports, analyses, and related deliverables.
- Own all facets of system and component design and development, including trade studies, layouts, architecture definition, system test and verification, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate on a subcontractor management team and serve as the technical point of contact with suppliers for hardware development, qualification, and procurement.
- Plan and support system-level testing, perform execution support, verification, data processing, and troubleshooting activities.
- Conduct system-level evaluations to verify requirements compliance and ensure airworthiness criteria are satisfied.
Requirements
- Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM field with 5 years of electrical engineering experience; or Master’s degree with 3 years; or PhD with 1 year.
- Experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems.
- Active US Government Secret clearance required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP) within a timeframe determined by the company.
- Senior Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience; or Master’s with 6 years; or PhD with 4 years in electrical engineering.
- Travel approximately 10 percent.
- On-site work at 100 percent (no telework or hybrid).
- Locations: Palmdale, CA; Oklahoma City, OK; or Whiteman AFB, MO.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with military aircraft subsystem development, including requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration, and test and verification for advanced aircraft.
- Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures.

Salary
- Primary level salary range: $93,300.00 - $171,000.00 per year
- Secondary level salary range: $116,300.00 - $213,400.00 per year
