Principal Structural Design Engineer
Job Description
The Principal Structural Design Engineer will support Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) in Aiken, SC by leading structural analysis and design activities and providing design and construction oversight for engineering work associated with nuclear or industrial facilities.
Location and Employment Type
- Location: Aiken, SC (onsite)
- Job type: contract
- Contract duration: 1 year, with two 1-year option periods
- Schedule: Mon-Thurs, 6:45a - 5:15p
- Projects supported: General Design Engineering business
- Relocation: Local candidates or candidates willing to relocate at the candidate’s expense
Key Responsibilities
- Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks to SRNS.
- Perform structural analysis for static and dynamic loads using manual computations and computer programs.
- Conduct structural design of concrete structures and design of steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber, and composite structures.
- Complete foundation and anchorage design.
- Provide structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions.
- Prepare CSI specifications and review vendor documents.
- Deliver engineering services using SRNS processes and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Education: BS Degree in Civil Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in either Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
- Working knowledge of STAAD.
- Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards including IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA.
- Ability to pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance if required.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation.
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
- Previous experience working at SRS.
- Preferred PE license.

- Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
