Job Description

The Product Design Electrical Engineer role is based onsite in Seattle, WA, and centers on leading the design, development, and qualification of medium voltage electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers, with primary focus on MV switchgear and transformers and integration with LV distribution.

Compensation

Salary: USD 116,800 - 160,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal partner teams to capture customer input and define design requirements for product development.
  • Lead the design, development, and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers, emphasizing medium voltage switchgear and transformers, and coordinating with low voltage distribution needs.
  • Develop Capex and Opex budgets, accounting for vendor development costs, prototyping, testing, and specialized tooling.
  • Engage with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and applicable federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes across countries through targeted testing.
  • Validate designs through prototypes, pre-production builds, and first-of-kind deployments, performing DFx and value engineering analyses at each stage and updating documentation.
  • Collaborate with field engineering and commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
  • Provide manufacturing support for new products on concurrent projects across multiple geographic locations.
  • Lead the product development team and coordinate with internal and external teams supporting the data center initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas environments.
  • 5+ years of commissioning experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design.
