What we offer
Onsite opportunity in Tulsa, OK with a role dedicated to design and development of new products and improvements. You will manage NPD projects, work across multi-disciplinary teams, and engage directly with customers. This position provides exposure to cross-functional collaboration with sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing and operations, and the chance to interact with our parent company Lucidity. Travel for market research and customer visits is part of the role, supporting you to shape products that meet market needs while advancing your technical and project leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing and operations to explore new product ideas and define specifications aligned with customer needs and market opportunities.
- Periodically attend trade shows and accompany the Sales team for market research and product development purposes.
- Visit customers when needed to discuss opportunities and determine solutions, delivering technical guidance throughout engagements.
- Analyze new product projects, designs and cost factors to strengthen the company’s competitive position.
- Assess formal customer technical requirements and craft responsive design proposals and bids that conform to those specs.
- Work with Sales, customers, Lucidity and other stakeholders to shepherd projects through the NPD processes.
- Employ computer aided engineering and design tools to create or assist in the design of new products (approximately 15–20% of time).
- Manage validation and rollout of new designs, including validation testing, go-live readiness, product launch, and post-implementation support as required.
- Participate in quality control and issue resolution, responding to quality issues using designated product management tools, troubleshooting defects, and coordinating inspections with multiple departments.
- Develop and finalize Corrective Action Reports and coordinate submission to the sales manager and customer to resolve quality issues, following through until validation is confirmed.
- Oversee proposed changes to existing specifications, ensuring evaluation, documentation and implementation occur within established processes, and communicating updates to all stakeholders.
- Schedule and lead recurring project review meetings with Sales and internal teams to ensure timelines and customer expectations are met.
- Assist with internal and external product and application training as required.
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, customers and internal departments to facilitate timely project completion.
- Collaborate with the NPD team to analyze product development processes and propose improvements aligned with department and corporate goals.
- Help develop strategies and tools to identify and prioritize all active new product projects, using them to manage day-to-day development progress.
- Keep current on regulations and industry knowledge, expanding real-world product application understanding through ongoing learning and professional involvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from a four-year college or university; and at least two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: experience in the lighting industry and/or automotive or trailer industries; electrical engineering experience is a plus.
- Project Management Professional Certification is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of mechanical and/or electrical engineering as it relates to automotive and trailer applications is highly preferred.
- General understanding of 12-volt lighting (LED and incandescent) and electrical engineering concepts related to LEDs, circuit boards, lens optics, photometrics and reflectivity.
- General understanding of the lighting industry product development process, including prototyping, tooling, injection molding and manufacturing.
- Strong ability to read, analyze and interpret technical and business documents; write reports and procedures; present to groups; and communicate clearly.
- Proficiency with CAD design software, internet software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with inventory management software such as SAP and project management software is preferred.
- Strong project management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to generate new product concepts and develop CAD drawings, with strong analytical and strategic thinking.
- Detail-oriented with strong written and oral communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience or ability to manage international projects; comfortable coordinating with teams across cultures and time zones, including occasional calls with Taiwan at varied times.
- Strong business acumen and ability to represent the company effectively.
- Minimum education and experience support: Education a bachelor’s degree; Experience mechanical engineering 3 years preferred, electrical engineering 1 year preferred.
