Project Engineer - Motor Control experience (Aerospace)
Job Description
Join Parker Hannifin Corporation as a Project Engineer focused on motor control for aerospace applications. This on-site role in Elyria, Ohio (zip 44035) leads technical projects, manages scope, cost, and schedule, and advises cross-functional teams. You will coordinate staff and maintain close customer interfaces to drive program success.
Responsibilities
- Define project objectives by evaluating technical proposals and plans with management and related teams, ensuring schedule commitments, cost targets, and technical expectations are met through strong leadership.
- Develop project plans and milestones by analyzing product or system designs and customer program requirements, performing technical studies, and preparing cost estimates; assign staffing, tasks, and resources across project phases.
- Maintain regular customer interfaces to present status, assess feasibility of changing requirements, and propose or negotiate schedule or methodological adjustments in coordination with program management, building customer confidence.
- Manage the project plan by reviewing changes in technical requirements, advising on actions to meet milestones, controlling costs through oversight of non-recurring and recurring expenses, and coordinating with or supervising outsourced contractors as needed; track variances and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and review technical work produced by others, including schematics, layouts, algorithms, transfer functions, and related test plans and reports, applying engineering judgment while addressing regulatory and intellectual property considerations.
- Ensure consistent engineering standards, processes, and documentation across project deliverables; maintain engineering history and project files to archive technical activities.
- Maintain professional knowledge through targeted training, technical publications, benchmarking best practices, and participation in professional associations.
- Serve as the primary technical and project contact; identify mentoring needs, provide guidance to team members, and act as a functional specialist when required.
- Participate in high-performance team initiatives and lean practices as needed.
Requirements
- Bs degree in engineering or a science discipline (PE certification acceptable); MS or MBA preferred.
- Typically 7–9 years of related experience to perform the essential functions of the role.
- Experience in electrical engineering design and development with strong emphasis on brushless DC motor controller applications in aerospace or other high-reliability environments.
- Solid background in power electronics, motor control, embedded systems, circuit design, system integration, verification, and experience supporting testing and qualification activities.
- Familiarity with regulated development processes and working knowledge of DO-178 and DO-254, including requirements-based development, verification, and documentation for safety-critical systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, standards, practices, and policies, with the ability to apply related disciplines to the core area of expertise.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or marketing and sales teams.
- Strong project management and organizational skills; able to facilitate team interactions and develop member capabilities.
- Ability to integrate knowledge from related engineering fields into the specialty area.
- Proficiency with software and specialized data analysis, design and project management tools, following established PM protocols; capable of tracking performance to goals and guiding the team to milestones.
- Familiarity with standard project management tools and practices.
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management principles to manage scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
