Rail Engineer II

Support HNTB’s rail engineering team across planning, design, and construction oversight for freight and passenger rail projects.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned work within the provided schedule and number of hours
• Prepare and/or modify select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations
• Develop project quantities and assist with cost estimate development
• Support engineering teams with organization and administrative tasks for design files
• Work independently on tasks including research, data collection, field investigations, and design support
• Contribute to planning, design, and construction oversight activities for rail projects
• Perform other duties as assigned

Rail Project Scope

• Freight rail and passenger rail projects for multiple clients
• Work may include spur tracks, sidings, double track, other capacity improvement projects, and passenger stations
• Opportunities to participate in other project types in a multi-disciplinary environment, including roadway projects

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or
• Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience
• Location: Raleigh, NC (onsite)
• Minimum experience: 1 years

• Understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with Open Products, MicroStation, and/or AutoCad
• Familiarity with other related software (as applicable)

What We Prefer

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
