Rail Engineer II
Job Description
Support HNTB’s rail engineering team across planning, design, and construction oversight for freight and passenger rail projects.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned work within the provided schedule and number of hours
- Prepare and/or modify select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations
- Develop project quantities and assist with cost estimate development
- Support engineering teams with organization and administrative tasks for design files
- Work independently on tasks including research, data collection, field investigations, and design support
- Contribute to planning, design, and construction oversight activities for rail projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
Rail Project Scope
- Freight rail and passenger rail projects for multiple clients
- Work may include spur tracks, sidings, double track, other capacity improvement projects, and passenger stations
- Opportunities to participate in other project types in a multi-disciplinary environment, including roadway projects
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience
- Location: Raleigh, NC (onsite)
- Minimum experience: 1 years

- Understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with Open Products, MicroStation, and/or AutoCad
- Familiarity with other related software (as applicable)

What We Prefer
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
