Job Description

Coffman Engineers, Inc. is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to help design and support electrical systems across power and lighting. This hybrid role in Los Angeles, CA offers a compensation package that includes a competitive base salary, paid overtime, and a discretionary year-end bonus, along with a 401k with maximum 5% contribution matching for 9% employee contribution.

What You’ll Do

Design electrical systems and provide engineering support through both design and construction phases. You will create and oversee deliverables for medium and low voltage power and lighting projects, while coordinating with architects, contractors, and consulting teams in a multi-discipline environment.

  • Provide electrical systems design, including power and lighting, load calculations, and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Perform complete construction documents, including drawings, power system studies, and specification documentation.
  • Execute and oversee designs involving medium and low voltage AC, DC, single line diagrams, electrical plans, and equipment layout.
  • Lead interior and exterior lighting design, including foot-candle calculations to ensure lighting meets IESNA requirements.
  • Support the design-to-construction transition by participating in meetings and reviewing or approving shop drawings submittals, responding to RFI’s, and addressing AHJ comments.
  • Review deliverables and follow QA/QC processes throughout design and construction phases.
  • Conduct site visits and communicate with architects, contractors, and consulting teams.
  • Present design approaches to authorities having jurisdictions and participate in internal and external client meetings.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams across multiple offices and work independently while supervising a small team.
  • Contribute to multiple projects simultaneously and maintain an effective relationship with clients.

How You’ll Work

  • May plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of professional work for major projects or moderately scoped total projects.
  • May supervise or coordinate other professionals assisting with specific assignments.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Power engineering or related field.
  • PE license in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/REVIT.
  • Knowledge of Title-24 Part 6 California Energy Conservation Code.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with California building codes and California AHJs and utilities.
  • Experience with Healthcare including OSHPD/HCAI.
  • Experience with Data Centers.
  • Experience with multi-family, commercial, institutional, and higher education projects.
  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage System.
  • Experience with SKM and/or ETAP programs.
  • Experience with PVsyst software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe/Bluebeam.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills, plus supervisory and people skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Approximate Base Salary: $130,000 to $180,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
  • Paid overtime: at 1.0 times hourly rate
  • End of year discretionary bonus: based on company, team, and personal performance
  • Hybrid work schedule: subject to change
  • 401k: maximum 5% contribution matching for 9% employee contribution
