Job Description
Redwood Strong LLC is seeking a Senior Mission Systems Software Engineer to build and sustain software for OMS-enabled mission systems in a hybrid role based in Roanoke, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain software applications for OMS-enabled mission systems
- Partner with simulator teams to ensure integrated functional workflows
- Build and enhance capabilities inside the CI/CD environment and deliver features aligned to a Government-approved backlog
- Support requirement decomposition into actionable backlog items including definitions, dependencies, and estimates
- Implement system functionality for external API integrations, security requirements, and operational performance needs
- Support functional, security, integration, and automated testing across the CI/CD pipeline
- Develop and maintain instrumentation for development metrics, operational metrics, security metrics, and functional performance metrics
- Provide technical inputs for PMRs, Capstone reviews, Demonstration Readiness Reviews, and Software Technical Development Package (STDP) artifacts
- Contribute to Interface Documentation, Software Development Plan (SDP), Software Test Plan (STP), and architecture refinement
- Participate in Agile ceremonies such as design reviews, demos, PI planning, and sprint reviews
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 7 years of software engineering experience on defense or aerospace programs, or Master’s Degree and 5 years of software engineering experience on defense or aerospace programs
- Secret security clearance (required for the position)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI security clearance (preferred for the position)
- Travel to customer or teammate sites as required, with 25% travel expected
- Ability to manage personal time and work independently or collaboratively in a team environment
- Self-starter who can break down large scope into workable tasks
- Proficiency with C/C++, Java, Python
- Experience with real-time embedded systems
- Strong experience developing distributed systems, APIs, services, and cloud-native architectures
- Experience with Agile, user stories, backlog practices, and CI/CD delivery
- Familiarity with cybersecurity controls, RMF-aligned development, and relevant DoD guidelines (preferred)
- Ability to generate technical documentation for CDRLs, PMRs, and Government-facing artifacts
- Knowledge of DO-178 software standards (a plus)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
- Focus on writing high-quality, well-tested code and optimizing for performance, reliability, and maintainability

Position Specifics
- Job type: Full Time
- Work location: Hybrid remote in Roanoke, TX 76262 (3-4 days in office)
- Schedule: Extended hours beyond a standard 40-hour work week are common due to flight test operations and program/customer deadlines
- Travel: Up to 25% (Required)

- Security clearance: Top Secret / SCI (Preferred)
Compensation
- Salary: USD 140,000 per year (from $140,000.00)
