Senior Semiconductor Development Research Engineer I
Job Description
Join Honda’s Center of Excellence as a semiconductor technology intelligence professional focused on what matters for automotive and intelligent mobility. This onsite role blends semiconductor expertise with on-the-ground engagement and rigorous analysis of patents, technical literature, and market signals. You will help leadership make defensible decisions by translating incomplete information into clear, evidence-backed recommendations.
What you’ll do
- Identify and assess emerging technologies, companies, supply-chain developments, and industry shifts relevant to automotive and intelligent mobility.
- Own assigned sensing domains within leadership-defined priorities and decision boundaries, challenging narratives with evidence, surfacing risks and opportunities early, and shaping recommendations when information is incomplete.
- Support or lead approved feasibility studies, experiments, prototypes, or proofs of concept using internal and external experts when technical verification is needed.
- Continuously scan semiconductor technology and the ecosystem, including suppliers, startups, patents, manufacturing, packaging, EDA, geopolitics, and supply chains. Flag weak signals and propose initiatives.
- Conduct approved research through visits, interviews, conferences, demonstrations, and outreach to companies, universities, consortia, and experts to close evidence gaps.
- Triangulate information across patents, papers, standards, product data, disclosures, experts, and market evidence, separating facts, judgments, assumptions, and uncertainty.
- For approved studies and workstreams, document results and recommend next steps or closure, including experiments, simulations, prototypes, and proofs of concept.
- Create briefings, technical analyses, early warnings, opportunity assessments, and recommendations for R&D, strategy, procurement, and leadership. Defend conclusions with evidence.
Key technologies
- EDA
- IP
- Simulations
What you bring
- A college-level Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably with a Major/Concentration in a related STEM field.
- 3+ years in semiconductors, technology intelligence, market research, supplier evaluation, research, strategy, or a related field.
- Demonstrable industry knowledge of devices, architectures, EDA/IP, foundries, packaging, test, supply chains, and automotive applications.
- Strong capability to investigate new topics, evaluate sources and conflicting claims, and state uncertainty appropriately.
- Credible engagement with vendors, startups, researchers, and experts, with the ability to identify gaps and detect unsupported claims.
- Self-directed and collaborative approach, with the ability to own recommendations, align with leadership, escalate risks, and support decisions.
- Ability to conduct studies, simulations, prototypes, or proofs of concept and recommend next steps.
- Strong research, writing, data visualization, and presentation skills, with external engagement preferred.
- Willingness to travel as required and build an industry network.
