Job Description
A senior traffic engineering leadership role in Knoxville, TN onsite, overseeing planning, design, and coordination with clients and agencies.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning and design activities for traffic engineering across multiple projects.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and maintain clear client communications.
- Investigate proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to verify compliance with applicable rules and standards.
- Direct the design of traffic control devices, including quantities, cost estimates, and specifications for bid packages for federal, state, and local agencies.
- Conduct and review traffic operations and safety analyses.
- Prepare and present technical reports and findings to clients, agencies, and the public.
- Mentor junior engineers and support staff to foster technical growth and collaboration.
- Lead, plan, budget, and deliver traffic engineering projects such as traffic studies, signal design, ITS design, signing and pavement marking, and construction traffic control plans.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams and serve as the primary point of contact for clients and agency partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or PTOE preferred.
- 10+ years of post-licensure experience in traffic and transportation engineering.
- Proven experience managing transportation projects and leading design teams.
- Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, standards, and software tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex technical information clearly.
- Experience working with federal, state, and local transportation agencies.
