Job Description

A senior traffic engineering leadership role in Knoxville, TN onsite, overseeing planning, design, and coordination with clients and agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and design activities for traffic engineering across multiple projects.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and maintain clear client communications.
  • Investigate proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to verify compliance with applicable rules and standards.
  • Direct the design of traffic control devices, including quantities, cost estimates, and specifications for bid packages for federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Conduct and review traffic operations and safety analyses.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and findings to clients, agencies, and the public.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support staff to foster technical growth and collaboration.
  • Lead, plan, budget, and deliver traffic engineering projects such as traffic studies, signal design, ITS design, signing and pavement marking, and construction traffic control plans.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams and serve as the primary point of contact for clients and agency partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or PTOE preferred.
  • 10+ years of post-licensure experience in traffic and transportation engineering.
  • Proven experience managing transportation projects and leading design teams.
  • Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, standards, and software tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex technical information clearly.
  • Experience working with federal, state, and local transportation agencies.
